Problem

For customers, depositing funds to high-risk merchants—such as crypto exchanges, trading platforms, forex, and gambling sites—is often challenging. Local banks frequently block or reject these transactions, leaving customers frustrated and unable to access these services.

For high-risk merchants operating internationally encounter significant barriers in accepting and processing the diverse payment methods required in each country. This complexity not only slows down operations but also introduces regulatory risks.

Kuady is a B2B2C product that bridges the gap

Powered by its parent company’s online international checkout system, Kuady provides a seamless way for customers to deposit and withdraw funds safely. By connecting to local payment methods, it ensures transactions are accessible and secure, even in high-risk contexts.

For merchants, Kuady simplifies payment processing and ensures compliance with local regulations, enabling merchants to focus on growing their businesses while minimizing operational complexities.

UX goals

Create an MVP: prepare the core product experience for the initial launch in two countries.

On a second phase, enable expansion into additional markets by iterating and refining the product based on user feedback and local requirements.

Design process

Understanding the landscape

We conducted a benchmark to understand the current landscape of payment methods and specific use cases, to refine the product for the MVP. We also conducted interviews with stakeholders and colleagues from target countries to validate use cases.

User interviews and feedback

“I think that is a good platform, I don't have any problem...the usability is very good, it’s not difficult for the user. And the color of the app is very nice with the green like that.”

“It’s very intuitive. It’s not difficult to understand”

Building and expanding the design system

When I joined the project, the design system was minimal, covering only a few initial screens. As we developed core flows, I scaled and expanded the design system to support the product's growth.

Testing and iterating post MVP

Before launching to general availability, we ran an F&F pilot with users from the first three countries (Chile, Peru, and Argentina) and gathered feedback through usability interviews. Based on the insights, I made some key improvements to the experience:

New features: prepaid card

Post MVP we introduced prepaid cards, both physical and virtual.

To drive adoption, I designed promotional screens that communicated the value proposition and encouraged users to request a card. The user journey was also supported by marketing materials, like emails and ad campaigns.

I also designed an operational dashboard where users could manage their cards. This included actions like blocking or canceling cards, viewing recent transactions, and ordering new cards.
